Thinking of taking a vacation this summer? It’s tough with gas prices approaching $5 a gallon and the rising cost of airfares. However, even though it’s challenging to budget for a family vacation, losing out on a bonding experience with the family comes at a great cost as well. Fortunately, there are plenty of ways to figure out how to squeeze a trip into a family budget. Here are some helpful hints:

1. Eat In

Just because you are on the road doesn’t mean that every meal has to be ordered off of a menu. Pack lunches for car trips and look for places to stay that have kitchens. Dining out means paying for the mark-ups at restaurants. Staying in for even a few nights can keep money in your pocket.

2. Be Creative

Rather than looking for a hotel to stay in, use the Internet to find the best deal. Did you know that site such as Forrent.com offer creative ways to find lodging that do not include paying by the day? Finding deals online could turn a dream vacation into a reality.

3. Nature is the Best Entertainment

How much does a day at the beach cost? Nothing! The kids will love building sand castles and jumping in the water. Parents will love the price. If you’re on a tight budget, avoid paying for admission to an expensive theme park and focus on places that offer entertainment at the best possible price. Going to a National Park or a public beach might be the best way to keep costs to a minimum.
